The SockKids focus on educating children and adults how bullying affects us all and what we can do about it.

Do you know where your socks go when they go missing in the washing machine? Well, the SockKids know! The SockKids are a mismatched family of socks that sometimes time travel through the spin cycle, teaching universal lessons of love and kindness, and focusing on creating a greater awareness of the many social issues that children are faced with today. The SockKids help to educate and encourage children from 2 to 92 to find solutions in helping to make this a better world.

In this story, Sudsy and Wooly discover their human is being bullied at school and team up against bullies with Ethan’s newest friend, Olivia. They discover bullying hurts everyone and staying silent is not an option.

More Inside! Children’s counselor and licensed therapist, Jamie Ross, gives adults and children guidelines on how to handle bullies.

MY TIDBITS

This isn't the first SockKids adventure I've read, and I was looking forward to seeing where they'd land in this book. The SockKids books do not depend on each other and can be read individually and in any order.

Ethan, a normal boy, happens to have a drawer full of sock buddies. None of these socks matches the other, but that doesn't mean they're lonely or lost. Ethan tends to wear them at home, matching or not. During this adventure, he wears two of them to school. There the SockKids witness how Ethan is bullied by a bunch of boys, and they try to figure out how to handle the situation and help him.

With a bunch of fun loving, curious and sympathetic socks, this book takes on a theme in a way kids six and above will easily understand. The solution Ethan uses to stop a group of boys from bothering him won't work in every circumstance, but it does show that Ethan can work against such situations. For kids in tougher situations, there are several add-ons at the end of the book with suggestions on how to deal with bullies, how to recognize bullying and other such activities. There's even one for parents to help them identify such situations in regards to their own children.

The message in the book comes over as strong as the title suggests, but that doesn't mean the story itself is boring. Even with the very pointed direction, the socks are adorable and offer a nice bit of humor and fun. The friendships which form in this book show how things can turn out for the better, and there's even a tiny, side adventure thrown in at the end which is sure to leave kids smiling. And the illustrations round it off, creating a delightful experience.

This is a book written for beginning readers. The dialogue is fairly simple, but runs smoothly. The characters are well described and it's no problem to fall into their world.

All about. . .
