Fast-paced and suspenseful, this is the explosive finale of Kristen Orlando’s Black Angel Chronicles series.

INTERVIEW

Kirsten was kind enough to take a few minutes and answer some questions...and I loved reading her answers. Thank you, Kirsten!

The Black Angel Chronicles dives into the world of spies. What inspired you
to jump into this secretive world?
The idea for the book actually came to me in the shower of all places
(where I think everyone does their best thinking, right?). My husband
and I had just watched the movie, Red, which is about retired CIA
operatives hunted by assassins. After we had watched the movie, I
was in the shower and thought, “What would it be like to be the
daughter of one of those top secret spies? What an interesting and
dangerous double life you’d have to lead!” And then I realized…oh,
my gosh, that’s a book! I’d been wanting to write a young adult book
for awhile but hadn’t come up with an idea yet and then… BAM! I think
I came up with half the plot somewhere between shampooing and
conditioning.

Writing isn’t always an easy path, especially when attacking a series.
Did you find some aspects easier than others? Are there things you
learned along the way which you would have loved to know in the
beginning?
Writing a series is both super hard and really fun. I found the second
book almost impossible. Writing a middle to a series while still giving
it a satisfying storyline is so, so hard. Throw in imposter syndrome
and the sophomore slump and it’s shocking I made it through. But
the best part of writing a series is getting to write the characters
more than once. I love my characters so, so much. So getting to write
Reagan and Luke and Sam and Harper over the course of three books
has been so awesome. I love them. I miss them actually now that I’m
not writing them anymore! Is that weird?
Many authors were avid readers during their childhood. What were
your favorite books while growing up?
I was a HUGE reader growing up. But my hands down favorite books
ever were The Babysitters Club. I think I read every single one of them.
What book are you reading right now?
Extraordinary Means by Robyn Schneider. I loved The Beginning of
Everything and have had this book sitting on my shelf for a little while
but having a toddler has really cramped my style when it comes to finding
time to read.
When you aren’t writing, what do you like to do?
I live to eat so probably doing something around food! Sitting down to
a gorgeous meal with my hubby (he’s a hell of a cook!). Introducing
new foods to my toddler (the kid loves all kinds of foods and flavors). Going
out to brunch with my girlfriends. Food and hanging out with the people
I love is my favorite thing to do.

What was your biggest wish as a child?

To be an author! My biggest dream came true and I feel so, so lucky.

And here she is...

Writing is one of the great loves of Kristen Orlando’s life and she has been lucky enough to make it her living, first as a television producer, then as a marketer and now as a novelist. Kristen graduated with a B.A. in English literature from Kenyon College. She lives in Columbus, Ohio with the other great love of her life, Michael. You Don’t Know My Name is her debut novel.
