MY TIDBITS
This is a book for young space fans and those who love to fly.
Neil loves to play on the playground and especially enjoys the feeling his tummy has when he soars high or spins fast. As time goes on, he develops a love for flying. Soon, he finds himself not only in several exciting, airplane adventures, but even in outer space.
This is a lovely mixture of story and science...or flight. Neil starts out as an ordinary boy, young readers will easily identify with. After all, almost every child loves the playground. As he follows his dreams, learns how to fly and soon goes even further, inspiration shoots free with him. The work needed to achieve dreams is as present as the knowledge that dreams can be achieved. While the story could have used a little more editing, it's easy to understand and works nicely as a read aloud for slightly older listeners, ages four and up.
Not only is this the tale of following and achieving dreams, but the author weaves in basic facts about flight, especially when it comes to space, docking, lunar modules and such. But the science end never overpowers the adventure. And there's even a dash of fun humor at the end. The illustrations are bright, simple and yet, let the story unfold clearly. When needed, the terms are also illustrated to help younger listeners know what's going on.
And here he is...
