Today's read... Three Little Pigs by Pavla Hanackova

While I love to discover new reads, it's also fun to remember traditional tales, which have delighted kids for generations. I'm also a fan of board books, which offer a little bit of fun to the reads. Today's read caught my eye thanks to the cute piggies. It's been awhile since I've revisited this tale, and it's one I've always enjoyed. Huffing...and puffing....and huffing...and puffing... Oh, and let's not forget the "Not by the hair of my chinny chin chin".  So, let's dive in!

MY TIDBITS

In a very quick read, the three little pigs face the big bad wolf while building their perfect homes.

I'm not going to recap this plot because almost all of you already know it very well. This board book delivers the tale with bright illustrations, which pop and grab. The geometric style adds a sense of simplicity while still holding the details needed to make each scene interesting. The book itself carries a fitting form at the top of each page to add a nice effect. This also makes page turning a bit easier for those smaller fingers.

The writing is concise and keeps boredom at bay. The vocabulary is fitting to the age group, and young listeners will have no trouble understanding what is going on. I was sad to see the well-known phrases of the wolf and piggies have been completely set aside (these are always so fun for the age group to repeat!) and it was too bad that we didn't get to witness the wolf burn his tail (another delight for listeners), but otherwise, it's cutely done. The message is clear, and does open up to discussion with young listeners if desired.

It's a nice, very short book for young readers to grasp, glance through, and carry around.
