What's Coming in October?

I did start with some spooky, eerie reads last month, but no worries! I have more for October. I have a few thrillers as well as some lighter, spooky reads, which add a touch of humor. Some even embrace Halloween cuteness. So, there should be something for a variety of readers (and age groups).

Here's just a few of the reads on my schedule, so you get a peek at what is coming up!

INFLUENCER: FOLLOW HIM OR DIE

This one just screams thriller, and the internet twist caught my attention. It should address the problem of who people appear to be on social media...and who they truly are. It takes place in a high school setting.so it isn't only through 'internet' scenes but thrusts real life against the facade. And that in a deadly way. I noticed that there are some trigger warnings, and if it gets too heavy, I will skip out on it, but I'm hoping it will be done well and keep me on the edge of my seat. I'll be diving in on the 2nd.

Young Adult Thriller

SYLVIA DOE AND THE 100-YEAR FLOOD

Some friends asked me if I'd happened to have seen the latest catastrophe movie, Twister. Which I haven't...I guess because I've lived much of my life in higher tornado areas and well...why would I want to watch that? (Nothing against those of you who do.) Anyway, this book swings around a huge flood (not a twister). It also should deal with wonderful themes such as persistence, hope, friendship, and more. I'm excited to see what it holds because I'm thinking this one will be good. Find out with me on the 4th.

SCARE SCHOOL DIARIES, #2

Some of you will probably recognize this author. He is a force to be reckoned with in the kidlit world, after all. When I saw this one for younger readers (chapter book), I immediately knew it'd be a great addition to this month's list. I didn't read the first book in the series because why would I ever do that? I'm expecting ghosts, snark, and tons of quirky humor. In other words, a perfect read for this age group and one to, hopefully, grab even reluctant readers. I'll be visiting it on the 8th.

Chapter Book

I WORKED HARD ON THAT

Nope, I'm not expecting this one to be spooky, but it does center around a spider, and that's close enough for me. Actually, I thought it looked super adorable and have the suspicion that the story could be really neat. I'm hoping I'm right and will be weaving right into these pages on the 9th.

Picture Book

AFTERLIFE: THE BOY NEXT REALM

Of course, I need to sneak in a tale, which deals with the afterlife during October. This one is a YA graphic novel and heads into fantasy as a girl tries to save the life of her younger brother. I believe there will be some romance, but I think it's more about fighting evil and self-sacrifice. I'm hoping it will be grabbing but I'll find out. Join me on the 12th to see.

Young Adult Fantasy / Graphic Novel

VERNON POCHE & THE GHOSTS OF NEW ORLEANS

Not only are we stepping into the realm of ghosts, but this one takes a historical twist along with a bit of jazz? I, honestly, have no idea. I don't think it really is spooky but rather, will pack more heart. Maybe a bit of mystery and action? This one is definitely going to hold surprises, since I know little about it...except that I do like the cover and the twist to the past. Join me on the 17th to find out more...a lot more.

Middle Grade Paranormal

INTO STARRY OUTER SPACE

This read is nonfiction for the youngest readers out there, and it has pop-ups! Those always make me giddy. Add that with space facts, and I'm really looking forward to diving into this one and seeing what it holds. Gaze with me on the 16th.

Board Book Nonfiction

BAD BOT

How about some scary science fiction? And telling by the cover, this one might be a bit gory, too. I'm assuming it centers around a robot gone rouge, and not in a good way. I don't know if it takes place now, in the past, or in the future. The only thing I know is that it should fit very nicely to October and isn't a super long read at around 180 or so pages. I'm looking forward to taking a spin with this one on the 21st.

Young Adult Horror

THIEVES' GAMBIT

I was so excited to get my hands on a copy of this one. Yep, I've seen it floating around in the literary word and have the suspicion that it could be an exciting read. I don't really know too much about it, but do know that it's been getting good reviews. So, join me on the 23rd to see if it's as grabbing as I hope it will be.

Young Adult Mystery Thriller

JUMP IN THE LEAF PILE

Who else loves to jump into leaves? I saw this and noticed the flaps and...well, it was an obvious 'must-read'. I'll be diving into this one on the 24th.

Board Book

My reading pile always has more books than I could possibly get to in a month's time. Which is terrible because I know that most of them are awesome reads! So, I always have 1 or 2, which I keep on the top of the pile with the hope that I'll find a way to squeeze them in somewhere.

THEODORA HENDRIX AND THE CURIOUS CASE OF THE CURSED BEETLE

This is the second in a series, and while I haven't read the first, I'm excited to dive right in and see if it's as fun as I think it might be. I'm expecting adventure, humor, science, mystery, and all sorts of surprising moments. I'm not sure when I'll be hitting it, yet, but I definitely we be grabbing it up at one point.
