It's time to shout-out another book birthday! Yay!
Today's read is for the youngest age group and circles around friendship. My husband and daughter are finishing up their treehouse right now. So, this cover caught my attention. I'm curious to see if this one is sweet and enjoyable.
Let's see if readers will be wanting to build a treehouse, too.
THE TREEHOUSE
Puddle & Lettuce
by Ilaria Ranauro
Happy Yak
Board Book
24 pages
ages 2 to 5
Puddle (a frog) and Lettuce (a snail) are best friends. They love doing everything together. In this story, they decide to build a treehouse to play in. Puddle gets started straight away, but Lettuce wants to go slow and plan. Will the friends learn to work together as a team to build a treehouse that both of them can enjoy?
MY TIDBITS
Friendship and working together come across with wholesome goodness in a cute way.
Puddle and Lettuce (a frog and a snail) have been best friends for a long time, but they've never visited each other's homes before. When they try, they realize things aren't that easy, since each home is built for them. So, they decided to build one together, but nothing is as easy as it first seems.
This is an adorable board book with two very likeable characters. They are both cheerful and respect each other quite a bit, and readers will wish that they could be friends with them, too. The pages make sure to introduce each one's house...a little reality mixed with a nice heaping of fantasy, since these homes do carry human attributes. So, when they want to visit each other, the problem is obvious, and this will make readers wonder and smile.
While these two run into a couple of problems during their quest to build a house, these are solved in a wholesome and inspiring way. The illustrations bring this across in a colorful and clear way. Readers can pick up this one on their own and follow the story through the illustrations if they'd like. The text is just long enough to make the story clear, while staying appropriate for the young age group. The only tiny thing which I missed was to see their solution for Lettuce and the tree house in action.
It's a cute book, and it appears to be part of a series. If it is, these are characters worth visiting again.
